The winds of change are blowing through Namibian football as the Normalisation Committee (NC) of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) declared its intention to hand over power to a new football leadership on 17 November. In a press release issued recently, the NC emphasized its dedication to completing the final tasks, including the restructuring of the administration and acting as the electoral committee for the upcoming elections.

The decision comes on the heels of the successful hosting of the NFA’s 18th extraordinary congress, where members reviewed and adopted amended statutes and an electoral code. A resounding majority, over 75 percent of the present members, accepted these changes, setting the stage for a crucial decision in the association's history - the election of a new executive council on 17 November.

With the responsibility now shifting to the NFA members, the press release stressed the significance of choosing leaders who will safeguard football's interests for years to come. The emphasis lies on improving the game, ensuring fair play, and upholding the sport's unifying, educational, cultural, and humanitarian values.

The elected team will succeed the NC and be supported by a robust administrative team, enhanced systems, policies, and procedures. The interim secretary general will provide support until the appointment of a substantive secretary general, ensuring a smooth transition. The new leaders will also focus on staff development, emphasizing professionalism, dedication, and commitment to their appointed roles.

Committed to fulfilling FIFA's mandate, the NC is determined to excel in the final step—the elections for the NFA executive. The press release concluded by announcing the opening of nominations for the NFA executive council elections, closing on 20 October. As Namibian football stands on the brink of a new era, there is a collective hope that the elected leadership will propel the sport to greater heights, fostering a legacy of success and unity.

The dynamic nature of the elections is evident as campaigning intensifies, highlighting fluid alliances and the potential for last-minute shifts in support. With only nine aspirants set to secure positions in the executive council after the elections, the outcome will profoundly shape the future trajectory of Namibian football. This pivotal moment on 17 November will usher in a new era under the leadership of either Patrick Kauta or Robert Shimooshili. As Namibia eagerly awaits the results, the stage is set for a historic and transformative election.
