BOB MAFOSO TAKES THE HELM AS AFRICAN STARS' NEW HEAD COACH

African Stars Football Club is proud to usher in a new era with the appointment of Bob Mafoso as Head Coach. A man known across Southern Africa for his tactical intelligence, winning mentality, and passion for developing players, Mafoso joins the Samba Boys at a time when the club is aiming to build on its domestic success and take a bold step onto the continental stage. With over ten years of elite coaching experience and a CAF ‘A’ License under his belt, Mafoso brings both pedigree and purpose to the African Stars project.

Mafoso’s coaching career is decorated with numerous achievements across club and international football. Most recently, he led Bantu FC to the Lesotho Premier League title in 2022/23, while also lifting the People’s Cup in 2023. Before that, he guided Lioli FC to an Alliance Cup victory in 2022. His earlier stint at Bantu FC between 2019 and 2022 was equally successful—he was crowned Coach of the Season in 2019/20, winning the league title and steering the club into the CAF Champions League. Whether as a head coach or assistant, Mafoso has consistently delivered results, with multiple trophies and strong league finishes to his name.

On the international stage, Mafoso has served both the senior and youth national teams of Lesotho. He is currently Assistant Coach of the Lesotho national team, who reached the final of the 2023 COSAFA Cup under his guidance. He also coached the Lesotho U20 national team, reaching the COSAFA U20 Finals in 2017 and 2019. This wealth of experience in international tournaments gives him the right foundation to handle high-pressure situations and bring calm, calculated leadership to African Stars, especially as the club prepares for continental challenges.

Mafoso’s coaching philosophy is built on possession-based football, technical development, and a commitment to team identity and discipline. He is known for instilling confidence in young players and helping them rise to their full potential, something that aligns strongly with African Stars’ long-term vision of youth development and sustained success. His ability to blend experienced leaders with emerging talents has made him one of the most respected coaches in the region.
