It all began at the iconic Dr. Hage Geingob Stadium on January 26, 2025, where African Stars kicked off their campaign against Blue Boys. The team made an early statement with a commanding 3-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Muundjua, Ketjijere, and Tjiveta. The road to the title was officially underway!

Next up was a tough quarter-final clash against Mighty Gunners on February 2 at the Oshakati Independence Stadium. It was a tense battle, but a moment of brilliance from Tjiveta secured a 1-0 victory, sending Starlile to the semi-finals.

The semi-final showdown on March 8 at the Mariental Sports Stadium saw African Stars take on the dangerous Bucks Buccaneers. It was a nail-biting encounter that saw goals from Kambanda and Youssouf, along with an unfortunate own goal from Hambira. African Stars triumphed 2-1, booking their spot in the grand finale!

On March 29, 2025, African Stars returned to where it all started—the Dr. Hage Geingob Stadium—for the final showdown against Young African. The atmosphere was electric, with fans on the edge of their seats. The game was a tactical battle, with both sides refusing to give an inch. But when the pressure was at its peak, up stepped the legendary Willy Stephanus!

In the 27th minute, Stephanus unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the box that left the keeper helpless and sent the African Stars faithful into a frenzy! That spectacular strike proved to be the difference as African Stars held on to claim a hard-fought 1-0 victory, crowning them the undisputed champions of the 2025 MTC Maris Cup!

Individual Brilliance Rewarded

It wasn’t just about team success—African Stars players shone throughout the tournament! Goalkeeper Mervin Kasetura was an unbreakable wall between the sticks, earning him the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award. Meanwhile, the midfield maestro Mbakondja Tjahikika dictated play with precision and vision, deservedly walking away with the Player of the Tournament award. Both players received a well-earned prize of N$ 20,000 each for their stellar performances.
